Joe’s years of experience in human resources both in public and private practices provide him with insights and experiences to help employees and people see what they can become in the workplace or in their personal lives. Audience participation and generating real work place ideas to meet the needs of customers are integral parts of Joe’s presentations. If you don’t like your current work place or how you view it, then Joe will provide you with useful, creative and fun options to a whole new work life. Joe’s love for coaching in his early career is now used in his current career to help individuals grow and learn with the help of the “FISH” philosophy and its goals. Joe’s “FISH” trainings in Seattle, Washington convinced him that the “FISH” philosophy along with practical applications from his human resource experiences would be a useful seminar tool for audiences of all ages. Law and the Educational Office Professional
Presenter(s): Kelli Hopkins, Esq., Associate Executive Director, Board Services; Kyle Farmer, Esq., Director, School Laws; & Brent Ghan, Chief Communications Officer; Missouri School Boards Association

This presentation will cover some of the major federal laws impacting our educational system and how they affect the institutions and those who work in them. Topics include discussions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA); and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); with special focus on how those laws impact office professionals. In addition, the presenters will provide tips for working with the media without violating the confidentiality required by many of these laws.
