State Department Council
2011-2012
“Seeing the best in you emerge”
Welcome to the State Department Council Website.
As an office professional in a state department of education,
you face unique challenges and opportunities. But you’re
not alone. I invite you to take a few minutes to acquaint yourself
with the NAEOP website and what our association has to offer you.
Theme: NAEOP President, Allie Faye Matthews,
has chosen “Seeing the best in you emerge” as her
theme for the 2011-2012 year. Her symbol is the butterfly and
they are described as beautiful and fragile yet so strong and
courageous. This statement could also describe office professionals
as we embark in our daily lives. As office professionals we are
of delicate appearance at times with a determined, able-minded
and capable force to handle every issue dealt us. As our NAEOP
mission statement states, as members we are dedicated to professional
and personal growth through education, certification and networking.
With professional development we will soar to be the best.
Membership: By joining the National Association
of Educational Office Professionals (NAEOP) and employed in a
state department of education you automatically become a member
of the State Department Council, allowing you to have the opportunity
to learn from your colleagues in other states and offer your own
expertise to them. I invite you to become an active member of
NAEOP and the State Department Council so you can reap the many
benefits of networking with your colleagues.
This year I challenge you to contact colleagues in your own state
department and spread the word about NAEOP and the benefits of
its membership. Encourage them to attend a local meeting or show
them the professional development offered through institutes and
at the national conference. Most importantly, tell them of the
wonderful networking opportunity and the resources they have through
membership in NAEOP.
One of my main goals this year is communication and keeping the
communication lines open at all times with membership and potential
members. The best kept secret of membership in NAEOP is the professional
development that NAEOP offers. I hope you will help me spread
the word about NAEOP and recruit members.
Benefits: A few of the benefits you will receive with
your membership in NAEOP are:
• Four issues of the association’s magazine, the
NES Connector.
• Keeping Affiliates Active e-newsletter
• State Department Council e-newsletter
• Professional Standards Program
• Reduced Conference/Institute Registration Fees
• Awards Program
• Student Scholarship Programs
• Networking opportunities

| As one of my favorite Dove chocolate wrappers said,
“There are new opportunities around every corner.”
If we can just take a few minutes to share your knowledge
of NAEOP with others, our membership could and would
grow. Look for the opportunities to share what NAEOP
has to offer – you’ll be glad you did. |
